ALERT: The Case of Abdurahman Alamoudi - Update

Date Posted: Thursday, October 02, 2003

Updates in Abdurahman Alamoudi’s recent arrest and detention:

  • Alamoudi has been denied bail.

  • The bail denial will be appealed.

  • A legal team is being assembled to handle the appeal and for future litigation in the case.

  • A defense committee has been organized.

Prominent legal activists have characterized the arrest of Abdurahman Alamoudi as a case of selective prosecution driven by political motives. There is great concern among legal and civil rights activists that this case is being tried in the media. The techniques include a misrepresentation of Alamoudi’s character, the deliberate omission of the outstanding contributions he has made to the Muslim community and to his country, and the denial of his right to the presumption of innocence through the use of guilt-by-association tactics.

MAS Freedom Executive Director Mahdi Bray spoke with Alamoudi Wednesday, October 1, and found him to be in high spirits and emphatically resolved to prove his innocence. He asks for the community to make duaa for him and continues to put his trust in Allah (SAW) during this difficult time.

MASFF will continue to provide updates as the case progresses and as more information becomes available.

 Actions You Can Take:

  • Monitor national newspapers, such as the Washington Post, and send letters and emails critiquing their coverage of the story.

  • Organize lectures and town hall meetings specifically geared towards concrete actions local communities can take towards providing legal defense, financial assistance and family support to the many Muslims who now find themselves victims of the current climate of hysteria, backlash, religious bigotry, and political persecution.

  • Contact MASFF at (202) 496-1288 for assistance or invite our staff to visit your community.
